How to apply to 100 internships without retyping your GPA (Summer 2027)

Internship season means 100 to 300 applications that ask the same questions. Here is a plan for Summer 2027, and how ProfVault fills your education, graduation date, coursework and CPT/OPT answers for you.

How to apply to 100 internships without retyping your GPA (Summer 2027)

Last updated October 2026.

Applying for internships is a numbers game played on a deadline. Students who land a summer role often send 100 or more applications, and every one of them asks for the same things: your school, your major, your GPA, your expected graduation date, whether you're currently enrolled, and, if you're an international student, whether you'll need sponsorship. Typing those answers 100 times is how a promising internship season turns into a slow one.

This guide covers when to apply for Summer 2027 internships, how to build a list that's long enough, and how to let software handle the repeated parts so your time goes into the applications that deserve it.

When Summer 2027 internships open

Earlier than most students expect.

  • August to October 2026: most large tech and finance companies open their summer internship postings, roughly 9 to 10 months before the start date. Many review applications as they arrive, so a strong application in September beats a perfect one in December.
  • Fall to winter: online assessments, interviews and the first offers.
  • Winter to spring 2027: startups and smaller companies post many of their roles, so keep applying even if the big-company wave has passed.

If you're reading this in October, you're not late, but this is the month to apply at volume.

How many internships should you apply to?

There's no magic number, but internship hiring is competitive enough that a list of 10 is rarely enough. A useful target is 100 applications over the season, split in two:

  • 15 to 20 "reach" roles at companies you really want. Each gets a resume tuned to the posting and, where it's asked for, a short cover letter. Try for a referral through a classmate, alum or career fair contact.
  • 80 or so solid matches where your master resume is good enough. These should take minutes, not an hour, because the form is the slow part, not the decision.

The same split works for full-time job searches too; we explain it step by step in The one-week job sprint.

The questions every internship form asks

Look at ten internship applications and you'll see the same fields again and again:

  • Education: school, degree, major, GPA, expected graduation month and year, and "Are you currently enrolled?"
  • Class standing: freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
  • Relevant coursework: a free-text box many internship forms add.
  • Work authorization: "Are you legally authorized to work in the US?" and "Will you now or in the future require sponsorship?", and on some forms a question about CPT or OPT.
  • Links: LinkedIn, GitHub, a portfolio.
  • Resume and cover letter uploads.

None of these change between applications. That's exactly why they should be typed once.

How ProfVault fills internship applications for you

ProfVault is a free Chrome extension (also on Firefox) and web app. You save your details once, and on each application the extension fills the fields it recognises. We recently added the student fields internship forms ask for:

  1. Education with student details. Each education entry now stores your expected graduation date, whether you're currently enrolled, and relevant coursework, next to your school, degree, major and GPA. The extension uses them to answer graduation-date, enrollment, class-standing, GPA and coursework questions.
  2. F-1 student status. If you're an international student, pick your status (for example F-1 on CPT, OPT or STEM OPT). ProfVault then answers the CPT/OPT questions, which it leaves alone if you haven't set a status, and gives the same truthful sponsorship answer on every form. Not sure what to say? Read How to answer "Do you require sponsorship?".
  3. Your resume and cover letter. The extension attaches your default resume and default cover letter to the upload fields. Your transcript, offer letters and other documents stay in your ProfVault vault, ready to download when a form asks for one.
  4. You approve before anything is filled. An in-page panel shows the answers it found, each with a confidence score, and you choose which ones to fill. The extension never submits an application; you review the form and press submit yourself.

It works on the sites where most internships are posted: Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters (support for its newer one-click apply forms is rolling out in this week's extension update) and 80+ more. Auto-fill is free and unlimited, with no credit card.

CPT vs OPT in one paragraph

If you're on an F-1 visa, CPT (Curricular Practical Training) lets you work during your studies, such as a summer internship, and is authorized by your school's Designated School Official as part of your curriculum. OPT (Optional Practical Training) gives up to 12 months of work in your field, usually after graduation, and STEM graduates may qualify for a 24-month extension. Applications often ask which one you'll use. This is a summary, not legal advice; check with your school's international student office. We cover the details on our internship applications page.

A simple weekly routine for internship season

  1. Sunday: add 25 postings to your list and mark the 4 or 5 reach roles.
  2. Weekdays: two reach applications in the morning, five quick ones in the evening. Review every filled form before you submit.
  3. Track everything. ProfVault's application tracker keeps every application and its status on one board, so you know where you applied and who to follow up with.
  4. When an interview lands, use Interview Prep to get likely questions for the recruiter screen, technical round, behavioral round and company round, based on the posting and your own profile.

Get started

Fill in your education, graduation date and work authorization once, then spend internship season on interviews instead of forms. Create your free ProfVault account and add the extension.
